incowrimo-2020 update

Amongst many of the other details that have emerged over the past two weeks as the work gets underway for the upcoming new year and re-opening of the site for 2020; is that it will be my final year undertaking this project.

The combination of a recebt fall which broke a collarbone several days ago, added to the additional and combined other frailties of age have helped me to recognize it’s time to let go the iron grip on this project without leaving claw marks over the whole thing.

There are no definite plans for a transition or next year and I am interested in serious suggestions from the community, especially from those who have been here a number of years. I would like to see this project continue to flourish as I believe in the bottom of my heart that handwritten correspondence may be one of most important tasks humans can be undertaking at this moment in history.

Not only is it a deeply personal act, it is an investment in an unknown future to which we have contributed our humanity and reached out to say it is possible to share with one another,  to the support and enrichment of a growing family of friends.  Allowing us to celebrate our lives and hold fast to the important treasures that guide us.

Cheers

Speedy recovery and a mountain of gratitude for your tireless endeavors to keep this dream alive. I only wish I had the skills, but sadly, do not. But my support and enthusiasm can be readily transferred to the next person who takes the reigns. A wonderous season of good wishes for you and yours.

  2. This will be my 2nd year taking part in this project. I have been writing letters on a regular basis since Jan 2010 and I love it. I understand that it’s a big endevor to undertake this project yearly. I look forward to seeing what suggestions members who have been here longer have in the comments.

How sad to see this happen. I can’t imagine how a broken collarbone can impede on checking a website. Must have been a bad break. Wish you a speedy recovery. Maybe you could just pass the reigns, as it were, to one of those YouTubers whom love the art so much. Better yet, a fountain pen / stationary merchant. No better way to ensure sales than to secure the demand for it.

It is with sadness in all of InCoWrimo members hearts that we see you go you have united many many people over the years through the snail mail many friendships have come to be from pen pals abroad all over the world, but it is understandable given the circumstances your health comes first and your well being is of most importance. We will remember all the years you dedicated in putting this together and made it happen year after year and for that we are grateful. Hopefully there is someone out there amongst the members interested in continuing where you leave off so that InCoWrimo never ends. With all that in thought we all wish you a healthy and speedy recovery, painless therapies and a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New 2020 New Year to you!

With regard to your collarbone injury, be patient with yourself. Do what your therapists tell you and don’t try to go too fast. If something feels wrong, tell them. One doesn’t realize how essential your collarbone is until you have a serious injury. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers for a recovery that enables you to do all that you want and need to do with your life !
